The specimen I am referring to, is my old Powerbook G4 500mhz. This laptop has been with me for quite a while. I brought it to Russia when I first met my wife, and then I brought it on the train from Moscow to Amsterdam. That's where I lost the tree keys. After a couple of weeks in Amsterdam, I brought in on the bus to England, and then by plane to Bangkok, Thailand. I remember I used to lie on the bed in my old american-themed thai hotel and hack on it. Thanks to internet cards I bought at the local 7-11, it was my link to the world on that trip. I was there for about 1 month, before I brought it home to Norway. I didn't get to use it much on the flight tho, as the battery was already a little weakened.
18:20 <@marcus> this powerbook has charm, but not cpu :)
18:21 <@marcus> it is also missing three keys
18:21 <@marcus> and some light spots at the right side of the screen.
18:21 <@marcus> and the power duct taped on
18:21 <@marcus> since the battery is dead
18:21 <+LotR> hehe
18:22 <@marcus> I've named him stuegris
The battery has just died gradually, and the plug is also pretty loose, which is why we did the duct tape thing. The screen on the other hand got it's light spots from a glass of rose wine, at my brothers apartment in Lillehammer. These days, it's barely capable of running linux and firefox, but I still love it. It's got a lot of history.
So, on friday it was pouring down. Great start on the weekend or what? But we made the best of it. Eirik came to visit us, and we had pizza, beer, and televised entertainment. We saw the two first episodes of "Heroes", and I have to say, I am hooked. Best tv series in ages.
On saturday, we finally managed to get rid of the remains of our bathroom redecoration, which have been cluttering up our terrace for weeks now. In the evening, I went to a birthday party with some guys I went to high-school together with. I haven't seen them in ages and it was weird/cool to see how they've changed in the last 10 year. Anyways, good guys, and a good party.
Even tho I was really tired on sunday, we decided to go to Svinesund at the swedish border to buy food. Got some pretty cool pictures from the bridge on my camera as well, will put them on flickr this evening. When we got home, I was pretty happy to relax on the sofa with "Thank you for smoking", which I really enjoyed as well. The humor really appealed to me, and I didn't fall asleep even though I was exhausted. Meanwhile Olga was at the cinema with Silvija, watching "The Devil wears Prada". She wasn't too thrilled, and I'm not going to bother to watch it.
We went to Russia this weekend. Olga's brother Sergey got married
to a girl in Murmansk in July this summer, and they had a party for their family in St. Petersburg to celebrate on Saturday. Since we had no oportunity to go in July, we went to celebrate with them now instead.
While there, I had decided to buy a blitz. I'm really unhappy with the results from the built-in blitz in the EOS 350, and with winter just around the corner here in Norway, it's going to get dark real soon. The original plan was to get one of the cheapest Sigma blitzes, as Jan told me he was pretty happy with his. However, when we got to the foto.ru shop, I noticed the EM 140 DG.
I thought ring blitzes was about 700USD, but I was able to pick it up there for about 400USD. Of course, it's main purpose is macro photography, but it's also totally useful for party photography. I took a bunch of portraits and dancing pictures at the wedding party, and it worked out great for that. I'll upload some of those once I've gone through them and cleaned them up.
It's also got a ton of functions, so I guess it'll take a while before I'm able to use it's full potential. For instance, you can adjust how much light should be emitted from the right/left tube, or even just use one of them.
For now, here's one of my test pictures from today, one of our cactuses:
It's 12.38, and we're still in bed :) Olga is trying to finish the crime novel she started around July-June, I'm doing some random surfing. It feels good to not have to get up early for once. Our plans for today are to get out and talk a walk in the Wiegelands park. Guess we'll get there around three o clock or so. :)
Yesterday we were hanging out with the Smebys, first playing two rounds of minigolf (I came last, Olga tied silvija for the victory), and later playing cards and drinking wine at our house. Silvija's brother is visiting, so they had a baby sitter for once. It was really nice, and I won the poker, landing me a bunch of plastic chips :)
Tomorrow it's back to work, but only for four days, next weekend we're going to my brother-in-law's wedding in St. Petersburg. I love St. Petersburg, and hope to take some cool pictures while we are there.
It's so great to finally be done with the bathroom. Thank you dad for all your help. You're the best.
